RECAPS (week of December 2 - December 7, 2002):

WE finally get back to Sonny and Alexis in the hospital when little Kristina goes into cardiac arrest. Alexis becomes frantic and slaps Sonny when he tries to comfort her. She blames him for bad things happening whenever he's around. In the meantime Ned shows up to tell Sonny to leave. Baby Kristina needs to have heart surgery to survive. Alexis hesitates to give her consent so Ned does it. Alexis warns him that should anything happen to the baby, it will be his fault. Bobbie asks Dr. Lewis to counsel Alexis because none of the ICU staff feels that they can trust her to be rational. When he talks to Alexis, she tells him that she has been having dreams about her sister. Later during the baby’s surgery, Ned tries to convince Alexis to take a break from the ICU and she refuses. When Dr. Lewis talks to her afterward, she tells him that she’s certain that if she leaves her baby something terrible will happen. She feels that she is responsible for what is happening to her baby. Dr. Lewis confides that he knows what it feels like to lose a child and allows her to remain in the ICU. Once the surgery is over and Baby Kristina survives, Alexis apologizes to Ned.

Sonny comes home to find Ric talking to Carly. Once they are able to speak in private, Sonny demands to know what Ric wants. Ric presents a letter from Morales, Sonny’s business associate in Puerto Rico and asks for a job. Ric is a lawyer and tells Sonny that since Alexis Davis has publicly accused him of being a mobster, he is in need of representation that will paint him as a legitimate businessman. Sonny insists that that is precisely what he is and that he is not currently in need of legal representation. Sonny tells Ric never to return to his apartment without an invitation. Ric apologizes and leaves quietly. When Carly starts whining again about Jason having to take the rap for Brenda murdering Alcazar, Sonny explains that the only way to save Jason is to save Brenda. He feels that, since he failed to eliminate Alcazar, he must now take care to see that no one that he cares about is blamed for the murder.

Alexis tells Gia that her baby is all that matters to her now. Gia tells Ned that Alexis’ law practice is suffering. She takes care of a client for whom Alexis failed to file an injunction.

Sonny visits with Brenda at the revamped PCPD. Later he and Jason decide that letting Brenda stay in custody is too risky because sooner or later she will slip up and say too much. Sonny returns home to find Carly on the sofa and Ric walking out of the kitchen. They explain to Sonny how Ric helped Carly when she sprained her ankle. Sonny offers Ric money, which he declines to take and leaves. Carly tries to convince Sonny to consider hiring Ric but Sonny remains suspicious. Later Sonny calls Ric and tells him that he may have a job for him to do. Later Sonny runs into Jax on the docks. Jax warns Sonny to stay away from Brenda and that he will handle things. Sonny tells him that it’s all his fault because of what he did to Skye that made her accuse Brenda of murder.

In his meeting with Ric, Sonny tells him to dig up whatever he can on Scott Baldwin and warns him never to discuss business with Carly. He feels that Ric is expendable and that if he fails, what he is doing will never be traced to Sonny. Later when Jason returns from his evening with Courtney, Sonny asks where he has been.
