RECAPS (week of December 9 - December 13, 2002):

Ric tells Scott that he has no loyalty to Sonny but Scott doesn’t believe him. Sonny and Carly ask Jason where he has been but they get no answers. Brenda calls Sonny to the PCPD and he goes, lying to Carly about where he’s headed and using a meeting with Ric as a cover story. Sonny encounters Scott at the police station. Sonny convinces Brenda not to confess to Alcazar’s murder to save Jax because it will be exactly what Scott wants. Max warns Scott not to illegally listen to Brenda and Sonny’s conversation. Sonny returns home and admits the truth of where he has been to Carly, saying that he just wanted to avoid an argument. Carly tells him that, while he was gone, Ric stopped by with the answers that Sonny wanted. Sonny calls Jason to tell him that Brenda has been released. Dr. Lewis visits Alexis in the ICU. She notices the headlines about Jax being arrested for Alcazar’s murder and tries to call Mac. When that doesn’t work, she asks Dr. Lewis to watch Kristina for an hour and leaves to go visit Jax. At the PCPD, she confronts Jax and insists on representing him. When she returns to find Felicia touching her baby, she is not thrilled. She blasts Dr. Lewis for allowing it and he counters that the doctors said that it would be alright. Alexis backs down and apologizes for overreacting. She tells him that she will be representing Jax. Privately, Felicia expresses concern over Alexis representing Jax and Dr. Lewis suggests to her that she should help Alexis with the case but allow Alexis to believe that it is her idea .

Sonny complains to Carly about Ric stopping by without calling. Carly complains about Brenda’s presence in Sonny’s life. When Brenda returns to the penthouse with Jason, Sonny promises her that he will do whatever he can to help Jax but Brenda is not sure she believes him. Sonny and Brenda admit how important they have always been to each other but Sonny insists that he’s happy with his life the way it is . When Brenda begins to wonder whether or not she killed Alcazar, Sonny insists that he would have known if she was lying when she denied doing it and she wasn’t lying. Later Carly gives Sonny the tape that Ric has, showing Jax in the hallway of Alcazar’s building on the night of the murder. Sonny takes the tape to Scott so that he can clear Brenda, Jason, and himself. He also tells Scott that he is considering hiring Ric as his attorney.

Sonny calls Brenda, telling her to come see him as soon as she gets back. He also summons Taggart to the penthouse and gives him the tape, instructing Taggart to deliver it to the proper authorities. He and Carly have words once again – once again about Brenda .

At the bail hearing, Alexis advises Jax to say nothing until it’s over. Just before the judge orders Jax released on bail, Taggart bursts in and hands the tape over to the judge. The judge questions why the tape has not been admitted into evidence but no one has any satisfactory answers. Jax’s bail is denied. Scott accuses Sonny of wanting to see Jax go to prison so that he can have Brenda. Alexis insists to Jax that he has to tell the truth about what happened on the night of the murder or he might as well hand Brenda over to Sonny .

Brenda rushes over to Sonny to confront him about giving that tape to Taggart. Sonny explains that he gave that tape to the police because he knows that Jax will never be convicted. Alexis objects when Scott demands that Jax take a polygraph test but Jax submits to the test anyway. Sonny asks Jason to take Brenda away from Port Charles .
